Do you talk about the Prosperity Gospel? 

No. I don’t believe the Prosperity Gospel is a biblically correct teaching and therefore, I will not be teaching it. It may come up as a comparison, but it will not be taught as sound theology. This means you won’t hear anything that sounds like:

• material wealth indicates God’s reward or approval
• the phrase “live like the King’s kid”
• the assumption that all Christians should be healthy and well
• a promise of prosperity in this life

How do I talk to my husband about buying this?

Approaching your husband with real humility is important. Pray about it before you go to him. Pray about his decision on the matter and be open to his thoughts. When you talk to him about it, be honest about why you think it would be good for you to take the class series and invite him to join you or have designated conversations about what you’re learning. I’m happy to talk to him about it or answer questions, but ultimately, it is between the two of you.

I’m already tithing - isn’t that enough?

There is more to biblical money principles than tithing. Having a healthy relationship with money that is rooted in Christian values is about your thoughts and your actions when it comes to obtaining money and using it. Giving 10% to your local church simply because you feel like it’s an obligatory command does not mean you are financially stewarding your money well. Your heart may need an attitude change.

I’m making little to no money right now, is this for me? I can’t afford this right now. Help?

Why are you charging for this?

I’m a firm believer in having skin in the game - if you aren’t paying for something, are you taking advantage of it to the most of your ability? I know oftentimes I’ll sign up for free things and not show up because I haven’t paid for it. I also value the time and energy I’m putting into preparation for these classes, as well as the amount of time I’ve dedicated to this topic and learning the Bible and how to teach it. 

How is this different then what my church teaches about money?

I really hope your church is talking about money! However, it has been my experience from those I’ve talked with that most churches either teach just the “give money to the church” message, rather than the whole hearted approach of trusting God and taking actions to steward the money you have well. That’s what you’ll gain out of this series.

I’ve taken FPU with Dave Ramsey, how will this help me?

I took FPU and it gave my husband and I a good start with talking about money when we were newly married. However, it didn’t give me what I needed in terms of helping me think differently about money and how I was using money. Dave Ramsey doesn’t talk as much about those who don’t have extra money to put towards debt. We’d already cut out the extras and between house payments and school tuition, so there was nothing left. Also, I feel like FPU works for some people, and for others it doesn’t. When you can’t reach the baby steps or any “proven framework,” there can be a lot of shame and guilt when that happens.
